Fall Classic Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting 11-inning clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run drew a combined 51 million spectators across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB announced this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest averaged 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also is the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a 16% increase over the previous Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game recorded over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English broadcast in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-match series averaged 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the total US average was 16.1 million. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09M watchers, an 8% rise compared to last year and Fox’s best postseason performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
